Dissertation

When dissertation gets a bit too overwhelming...

One more addition to procrastinating posts.

Flying Like A Dato

Today turns out to be a good day in spite of back to back meetings and class. Met up with my former Mandarin teacher who graciously drove me back to KL and treat me to 'minum petang'. When I got home, too sleep-deprived to do dissertation work, I decided to book my ticket to Kuching for the Rainforest Festival. Much to my amusement, Malaysian Airlines has an array of titles to select from when you fill in the passenger information form (see below).

This could be interpreted in various ways:

1. MAS is sensitive towards their passengers' titles and seeks to uphold a professional standard when dealing with passengers
2. Malaysia is still caught up in our obsession with titles and often put meaningless importance on using those given titles at meaningless situations
3. MAS wants to make their passengers feel special by allowing them to choose their own titles

Needless to say, Dato Farah, Dato Aneez, Dato Deepa and Miss Elizabeth shall be flying economy class to Kuala Lumpur on MAS this July.

Best RM38 Datukship deal, ever.

Sleep-writing

A moment of glory in my 3 years in PHIR...

Later, I had a 10-minute nap. During which I had a dream about politicians arguing about Malaysia's foreign policy; and I'm pretty sure Mahathir was in it too.

Kindness in the rain

I posted the status below on facebook earlier and it got 23 'likes' in 18 minutes. Okay, its not a massive figure, its not even impressive; but when you're a student who has not made any mark yet on this world - it makes you feel like a rock star. I digress..

"Because I'm stubborn and have little patience for draggy tropical rain, I decided to just walk under the rain from the train station. At one point, I stopped at a junction to wait for the cars to pass. A girl about my age who had passed by me earlier was there too. She noticed me and spontaneously came over to put her umbrella over my head, simply saying, "hujan" (rain) and walked with me until we parted at a corner. Thank you, stranger. Faith in humanity restored.

I'm glad to have encountered this random act of kindness at a place filled with busy city people. There is still hope.

New Toy

I got myself a new toy. So here are some pictures I experimented with. Taken when I was procrastinating. Nothing to brag about but I just wanted to post something on this blog since it has been a while.

Meanwhile, my explanation to my friend -

"erm... broke the very first one, lost its replacement in Sweden, and then I broke the replacement's replacement and couldn't find the warranty (which I placed at a 'safe place'). Now I have this :P"
